Crow, Ben L.
Obituary
Ben Lee Crow was born July 12, 1928 in Ft. Worth, TX. He passed away May 4, 2017 in Dallas, TX. He was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Seddon Crow, his father, Ben F. Crow, and his brother, Robert Crow, all of El Paso, Texas. He is survived by first cousins, A. E. Seddon of Texas and Kathryn Seddon of Arlington, VA. Ben graduated from high school in El Paso. He joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Whiteside in the waning months of WWII. Upon returning to El Paso, he attended Texas Western College (now UTEP) graduating with academic honors earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Social Fraternity. Ben worked for Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN and Collins Radio in Dallas, and later attended SMU to obtain a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Ben spent the remainder of his career as a highly successful stockbroker for several investment firms in Dallas, including Paine Weber, Rauscher Pierce and AG Edwards. While with Paine Webber, Ben developed a proprietary method for predicting major stock market corrections, and was featured in the Dallas Times Herald Newspaper on August 21, 1982, for his forecast of a major market upswing which was in direct contrast to the prevailing consensus. Ben donated generously to many worthwhile causes including the Dallas Public Library, Baylor Hospital, Methodist Richardson Medical Center, University of Texas Dallas, and Wounded Warriors. A fierce patriot with a heart for children, he was an enthusiastic volunteer for several institutions such as the Dallas VA Hospital and Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Ben’s quick wit and self-depreciating humor left a lasting impression on all those who were fortunate to know him. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lolita Gupta, the caretakers of Autumn Leaves Assisted Living Center, Baylor Hospital, Total Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as Heart to Heart Hospice. A memorial service for Ben will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Autumn Leaves, 1010 Emerald Isle, Dallas, TX 75231. His remains will be interred in the family plot in El Paso, Texas.
