Obituary
Harry M. Johnson of Plano, Texas died peaceably on May 27, 2017. He was born on April 29th, 1924 and spent his early years in the Pittsburgh area. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in September 1941 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was wounded on Vella La Vella and spent six years recuperating in Veterans Administration hospitals. During this time he taught himself electronics and was proud to have worked at Sperry Corporation outside Phoenix, Arizona and Collins Radio near Dallas. Harry spent many years as an amateur radio operator and later building elaborate model airplanes. Over the years he treasured the companionship of his dogs. Recently Harry assured his family and friends that, “I have had a wonderful life.” He was preceded in death by his son Eric and is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Sarah, his son James Neil, daughter Barbara Jean and their spouses. Harry’s family wish to thank the staff at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center in Bonham for all their compassionate care. The family suggests that any memorial be sent to the Admiral Nimitz Foundation* where they have dedicated a plaque in Harry’s honor at The Pacific War Museum. At Harry’s request, the burial service will be private. *Admiral Nimitz Foundation, 328 East Main Street, Fredericksburg, TX 78624 Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
