Travis, John Preston, III
Obituary
John Preston Travis III was called home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2017 at the age of 83. Born on November 10, 1933 in Dallas, Texas, to John Preston and Dovie “Bunnie” (Dowd) Travis, John graduated from North Dallas High School where he served as President of his Senior Class of 1951. He then attended his beloved University of Texas at Austin before graduating with an Architectural Degree from The University of Oklahoma. As an architectural designer and real estate developer, he designed award-winning homes, major architectural projects for Fortune 500 companies, golf courses, and lake resorts. Among his many interests were sports, history, painting, inventing, and writing. He wrote several books, including Sandy Claws, a humorous children’s book. Known for his sense of humor, optimistic outlook, and love of family, John was most excited to participate in any family activity. Survivors include his five children: Joel Travis, Michelle (Travis) Madden and husband Clete, Tim Travis and wife Monica, Tracy (Travis) Hardenburg and husband Lance, and John Travis, IV; his two brothers Bill Travis and wife Jane, and Michael Travis and wife Laura; his six grandchildren: Trent Madden, Blake Madden, Wyatt Travis, Olivia Hardenburg, Luke Hardenburg, and Davis Hardenburg; as well as numerous other relatives. John’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to his caregivers at Sonoma House and Encompass Home Health and Hospice. These providers developed a warm relationship with John. This heartfelt treatment was a great comfort and John retained his positive attitude and good humor until peacefully passing in his sleep.
