Wood, Joyce
Obituary
Joyce C. Wood, 88, Dallas TX Passed away Saturday June 10, 2017 at her home, surrounded by family. Joyce was born in Vernon Texas to Clarence and Inez Cross. Joyce was married to Lt. Col. William Wood, USAF Retired (Woody) and they lived in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Okinawa, North Carolina and Nebraska where they were, of course Nebraska Football fans. GBR! Joyce and “Woody” were also proud and honored members of the Omaha Royals Lancers for many years and enjoyed attending KC Royals spring training in Florida. Joyce graduated from Electra High School in Texas and attended Bellevue University in Nebraska. She worked in many different jobs during her life as a Military Wife but she was most proud of her time as Vice President and Mortgage Loan Officer for the Bank of Nebraska, where she always worked on behalf of the underdog. Joyce was an avid reader, gardener, cat lover and bird watcher. Her wonderful home cooking is remembered fondly by her family. Her impeccable taste was admired by all – Joyce always had her hair done, her nails painted and lipstick on! She was generous to a fault and loved to send small gifts to her Great Grandchildren. She will be missed by all of us. Joyce is survived by her Children: Kathleen Rose (Thomas), Stuart Wood (Elena), William Wood (Deborah), and Julia Sawtell (Stephen Jr.) Grandchildren: Erin Dunham, Allison Norris, Miranda Armie, Christopher Wood and Kathleen Sawtell Great Grandchildren: Eleanor and Alice Armie Joyce was predeceased by her husband William Wood and brother Jerry Cross. Dear Willie Wood and Julia Sawtell,
My Condolences for the passing of Joyce Wood, your mother.
I read the description of your mothers life and it sounds amazing.
I went to your fathers funeral years ago. At that time I believe I met your mother Joyce and you, but I am 72 and some details may escape me.
I am Federico Arias Wood. My mother and your grandfather Rodolfo Wood are brothers. Both RIP. My uncle Rodolfo and aunt Ofilia are my grandparents of baptism and very beloved by me. And this love translated to their children and to you. There has always been a great love between our families even though our families lived In different places and did not see each other often.
I am very grateful for the one year my brother Willy and I spent with your grandparents in Rosita, Coahuila, where I did my 8th grade, and I met the best teacher of my life Mrs. Hayward.
In the early 70’s I was stationed at Fort Hood, and I and an Army buddy of mine drove to an Air Force Base in Omaha to spend New Years with your dad. It was a long drive and we left the next day to report at Fort Hood. Willy your dad was very happy to see us and made us feel great. It was memorable.
My love and prayers for your mother Joyce Wood.
Sincerely
Federico Arias Wood
