Davis, Joseph "Sam"
Obituary
Joseph Samuel Davis passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Born on July 28, 1930, in Lubbock, Texas, he was a graduate of both Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University. In 1950 he joined the Navy to serve in the Korean Conflict as carrier fighter pilot. That same year he met Jackie Joy Jolley on a blind date. When Sam first saw Jackie, he said “I’m going to marry her!”. True to his words, they were married on December 19, 1953. Sam also grew up in the mountains of New Mexico where his parents owned and ran a boys and girls camp, Camp Davis. In his youth he enjoyed trips “over the mountain” with his brothers to fish for trout and in later years sitting on the front porch of the Big House with family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed watching them swim in Gammie’s pool on hot summer days. He began his career at Cities Service and later the Southland Corporation (7-11) where he retired as tax manager in 2003. Sam is survived by his wife, Jackie Davis, son and daughter-in-law Jay and Debbie Davis of Boston, MA, Chris Davis Flowers of Dallas, TX, Libby Davis Vermeire of Allen, TX, son David and daughter-in-law Laurie Davis of Allen, TX. Grandchildren Cody and wife Emily Davis of Tulsa, OK, Samantha Flowers of Garland, TX, Garrett Flowers of Dallas, TX, Clayton Vermeire and Jackie Vermeire of Allen, TX, Joseph, Adam and Luke Davis of Allen, TX and a great grandson Samuel (Sam) Davis of Tulsa, OK. He is also survived by a brother Bill and wife Irma Davis, brother in law and sister in law Leonard and Pat Jordan, sisters in law Betty Davis, Barbara Davis, and Sandy Byrd. He is preceded in death by his parents J Mule (Coach) and Liz Davis, and brothers Johnny Davis and Jerry Davis. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Northway Christian Church, 7202 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or Northway Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of: ARIA Cremation Service & Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
