Obituary

Cecilia Thein Dubois of Plano, Texas, went to be with her savior on the morning of October 3, 2017 at the age of 94. She was born on April 14, 1923 to the late LeRoy Thein and Ann Deasy Thein in San Francisco, California. Cecilia grew up  San Francisco and Redwood City, California with her brothers; Sonny & Robert. Cecilia attended University of California, Berkeley and earned a Juris Doctor Degree from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California. She was the first in her family to go to college and one of five women to pass the California State Bar in Northern California that year. Cecilia lived her life to the fullest in California, Rome, Belgium, Texas and everywhere else she found herself. She enjoyed attending the San Francisco and Dallas Symphonies, she was active in water skiing, snow skiing, and horseback riding, and she enjoyed her travels to Bali, Hawaii, Mexico, the Middle East, and Western Europe. A life-long Irish Catholic, Cecilia was a regular parishioner at Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Plano, Texas. She was also an art volunteer at the Ross School in California, active with the Junior League of San Francisco, and she published a series books concerning the commercialization of space called SpaceLog which is now part of the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. A proud mother of three daughters and two sons; Cecilia’s greatest passion was found in the time spent with her family. She introduced her children to archaeology digs and encouraged them to explore all that life had to offer. It seems appropriate that St. Cecilia was the Patron Saint of Music; Cecilia made sure to teach her children the universal language of music. She armed her children with recorders at a young age and they now live on to remember her life as a love song. Cecilia was also a grandmother of seven and a cherished cheerleader for her extended family. Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband, William S. Cavalier, Jr., her daughter, Cecilia Ann Cavalier, and by her brothers; Sonny & Robert. She is survived by her children; William, Robert, Aileen, and Caitlin, grandchildren; Jamie Leigh, Grace, Stephan, Jackson, John, Albert, & William, half-siblings; Van R. Thein and Kerin Pontes, as well as extended family and friends.

Cecilia Thein Dubois will be laid to rest with her late husband at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael, CA just north of San Francisco.

Her funeral is set at 11:00 AM this Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Sebastians Church in Greenbrae, California.

Mrs. Cavalier and Mr. Cavalier lived directly across from us on Shady Lane. Our two families had intermingling Children at play. Robert and young Brian ( R.I.P.) played all the time. And Cecilia was my closest friend.

That beautiful white house that Mrs. Cavalier designed was specular!

I am so happy to have grown up to know Mr. Cavalier and Mrs. Cavalier as most kind, gentle, and welcoming neighbors.

    Many Blessings upon all!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
