Obituary
Karl Steven Chears was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 15th 1961 to Ellen and Calvin Chears. He was one of three children and accepted Christ at an early age. Karl was the second born, followed by his sister Karen 10 months later. “Irish Twins” Every year between March 29th to May 15th, his baby sister loved to challenge him because they were the same age during that period. Karl received his formal education through the Chicago, Illinois Public School System and Crete Monee School District. Karl served in the US Army and Reserves from 1979 to 1985 as a Combat Engineer. In 1993, Karl was united in marriage with his childhood sweetheart Vickie Longnecker. There 35 plus years together was filled with much love and dedication. Karl held several jobs before beginning a life-long career in the security and law enforcement starting at the Chicago Tribune. With each position that he held within the security and law enforcement world, Karl received various commendation. He was dedicated, dependable, loyal, and hard working. He went beyond his initial duties and gave more than one hundred percent of himself. Karl loved watching movies and a proud owner of 1000+ of VHS, DVD’s and CD’s . He also liked going to the theater to catch the current Sci-Fi action adventure movies, hanging out with his nephew playing pool and going to the gun range. Karl loved photography and the Oriental culture. Karl was a loving and caring son, husband, stepfather, brother, uncle, and grandfather. The times that were spent with him would be fun and filled with laughter. He will be sorely missed. Karl is preceded by his father, Rev. Calvin Chears. Karl’s life will be celebrated and the memories will be cherish by those he leaves behind: his loving wife and soulmate Vickie, his loving mother Ellen Chears, his loving sisters Velma Myles(Byron) and Karen Warr(Clement), his step son Joey Brefczynski (Diana), his mother-in-law Wilma Longnecker, his nephews, Clement Warr, William Wells and Steven Chears, his nieces, Danielle Warr, and Christina Kirkwood(Sam) along with several nieces and nephews, his grandchildren, Kendall, Aydien Gene, Bay Elizabeth, Levi Phillip John, his great-nieces Jordan, Jasmine, Paris, extended family, life-long friends and fellow co-workers/officers.
