Cargile, Peggy J.
Obituary
Peggy J. Cargile was born in rural East Texas to Aileen Parsons Cargile and Josh Cargile during the Depression. An exceptional student, she received her B. S. degree from East Texas State University and master’s degrees from East Texas, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Woman’s University. She also studied in Mexico and Colorado. Peggy was a teacher and school librarian in Dallas ISD, her work spanning the full K-12 at one time or another. She also taught in U.S. Army and Air Force schools in Germany and the Philippine Islands. She had a great desire to see the world and traveled in 44 countries on four continents. During her later years, Peggy married John F. Hill, her prince, who shared her interest in travel. The consummate professional, she was known throughout her life as a resourceful person. She participated wholeheartedly in numerous organizations including American Association of University Women, Women’s Alliance Unitarian Church, AARP, Dallas Retired Teachers Association, Friends of Lakewood Library and Retired School Personnel. She also served as volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation, Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas Foreign Visitors, and Dallas ISD. Generous, highly intelligent and very practical, Peggy was a font of information for all who knew her. Husband Jack said “She never left home without a bag of books, magazines, brochures, lotions and pens that someone might need.” She was constantly helping someone – find a job, locate a retirement home, transport to grocery store or doctor’s appointment, plan a relative’s funeral. Peggy was predeceased by husband Jack in 2008, a loss from which she never fully recovered. She is survived by stepchildren Carol Gonzales and husband Michael, Brian Hill and wife Vicky, and John Hill and wife Marcia; grandchildren Jackie Gonzales, Pauline Gonzales and Alex Hill. She will be missed by them and countless friends from all ethnic, socio-economic, and age groups. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 3, at First Unitarian Church of Dallas, 4015 Normandy (at Preston Rd). In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Arthritis Foundation or Planned Parenthood. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
