Obituary
Viola Mae Reed, 94, of Lakewood Village, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2017. She was a former long-time resident of Altus, OK. from 1955 to 2012. Mae was preceded in death by her mother and father Elizabeth (Noske) and Fred Stinley, brothers Kenneth and Wilbur, husband Eddie “Ab” A. Reed, daughter Lorraine Cotton, sons Leroy and Tommy and grandson Kyle Reed. Mae was born on November 10, 1923, and grew up on a farm near Gotebo, OK . She was very proud of her rural upbringing. She frequently shared stories of milking cows, raising a garden, chopping cotton and walking over a mile to her one room school in all types of weather. She graduated from Gotebo High School in 1940. She married Ab, a WWII US Marine and Southwestern Bell retiree, in 1943. They were married for 58 years. Mae had multiple careers while raising four children. She worked at Sears, Jackson County Memorial Hospital and managed The Little Brown House craft store. Upon Ab’s retirement both became involved in wood crafts. She had a unique gift for painting crafts and enjoyed teaching others. She was also a 50 year member of The Grand Chapter of Oklahoma Order of Eastern Star. Mae is survived by her oldest son, Eddie(Ed) A. Reed, Jr. and wife Pam, Lakewood Village, TX., grandchildren David Cotton and wife Christina, Houston, TX., Dennis Cotton and wife Kristin, Mansfield, TX., Adrienne Allums and husband Mark, Frisco, TX., Eric Reed and wife Courtney, Frisco, TX., Ashley Merritt and husband JRobert, Nichols Hills, OK., Elexis Jones and husband Chris, Frisco, TX., Annesha Robertson and husband Andy, Chickasha, OK., Bryan Reed and wife Mandy, Vernon, TX. and Brandon Reed, Las Vegas, NV. “Grandma Mae” also had 21 great grandchildren.
