Geist, Dr. Frederick
Obituary
It is with much sadness that the family of Frederick Geist announces his death on December 10, 2017. Fred was born May 23, 1923, in Madison, Wisconsin. He grew up in Madison and graduated from Antioch College in Ohio where he met his wife, Mildred Davis. He received his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and served his internship and residencies at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. Fred and Mildred then moved to Dallas where they remained, except for Fred’s service in the Navy in WWII and the Air Force during the Korean conflict. After having a private practice in Internal Medicine for 14 years, Fred went on to serve as Medical Director at Southwestern Life Insurance Co., Southland Life Insurance Co., and Optimum Re Insurance Co. Dr. Geist served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas and was a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Society of Life Insurance Medical Directors of Texas (past President), the Dallas Academy of Internal Medicine (past President), and the Dallas Internist Club (past President). Fred was active in his church, serving on the church’s vestry governing committee for a number of years. He also participated in services as a lay reader and filled the role as the church’s instructor for those seeking to become new lay readers. He was an active bridge player throughout his adult life, and his children will always fondly remember how he found time to take them hunting and fishing when they were younger. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 8787 Greenville Avenue, on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Mildred and his brother Howard. He is survived by daughter Kathryn Geist and son Edward Geist and his wife Kaye. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 8787 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243, or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
