Engleman, Richard L.
Obituary
Richard Lynn Engleman, resident of Plano, Texas, formerly of Goodland, Kansas, passed away on January 18, 2018 surrounded by his family in Plano, Texas at the age of 67. Richard was born in Quinter, Kansas, and raised in Colby, Kansas. A 1968 graduate of Colby High school, he was a letterman in football, basketball, and track. He attended Colby Community Junior College and was a 1989 graduate from the Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in Goodland, Kansas in Communications Technology. At age 16, he began working for Van’s Auto Body in Colby, Kansas. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Penny Dickman, and in 1976 moved to Goodland, Kansas and began working at The Body Shop. In 1989, Rich began his career as an engineer with Nortel Networks, where he worked for 20 years until retirement. From a young age, Richard developed a passion for cars. His first car was his grandmother’s 1949 Pontiac, followed by a 1965 Ford Mustang he bought from his brother, David, and he later traded it in for a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach One—his prized possession. Throughout his life he restored and rebuilt a number of cars. His love of cars carried into retirement where he began a collection, rebuilding and showing his cars, and he won multiple best of show awards for his 1971 Ford Torino Cobra. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was outgoing, social, and Mr. Fix-it for his three girls. He cherished the time he spent with his three grandsons, Brendan, Collin, and Finley—taking and picking them up from school for years. He was very proud of them and talked about them to everyone. He’s survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Penny Engleman of Plano, Texas; his three daughters, Amanda (Mandy) Engleman of Plano, Texas, Amy Holcombe and husband David Holcombe of Plano, Texas, and Shelley Engleman, of Lewisville, Texas; grandchildren Brendan, Collin, and Finley Atok, and Kimberly, Matthew, and Trevor Holcombe of Amy and David; Brother David Engleman and sister-in-law Pat of La Quinta, California, and Sister Diane Hoeme and brother-in-law Lynne Hoeme of Kansas City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Harold Engleman; mother Mary Louise Engleman; and his brothers, James (Jim) Engleman and Terry Engleman.
