Dr. Crayton relocated his family to Marshall, Texas where Philip grew up.  Philip was a drummer in the Marshall High School band. After graduation in 1965 he attended college at Stephen F. Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

On September 1, 1967 he married his high school sweetheart, Gayla Carrington. They were married for 50 years. She remained by his side through happiness and illness.

In 1969, Philip and Gayla moved to Carrollton where their children were born.

Philip was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Howard Crayton, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Britton, his parents, Dr. Philip Crayton and wife Mary Virginia Crayton and his youngest brother John Crayton.
