Chandler, Ada May (Howerton)
Obituary
Ada May Howerton Chandler went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 15, 2018, at the age of ninety-four. She was born in 1924 in Silver Creek, Nebraska, to Birchie Smith Howerton and Francis Howerton. She had four siblings: Perry, Naomi, Lloyd, and Virgil. In 1926, the family moved to south Texas where Ada graduated from Runge High school in 1941. Ada faithfully served in the Women’s Air Corp from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed in Georgia, Florida, Ohio, and California. After her service, she attended the University of Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. It was here that she met Carroll Chandler. Ada and Carroll were married in January 1949. They both enjoyed traveling and visited over forty countries together, often staying with missionary friends. They were involved with A Grace Gathering class at Stonebriar Community Church, and Ada served as the coordinator of the Prayer Ministry for many years. Carroll passed away in 2013. He and Ada were married sixty-four years. Ada was also an accomplished seamstress who adored sewing for her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived today by son Marc Chandler, daughter-in-law Pam Chandler, daughter Sharon Chandler, sister Naomi Coryell, brother Lloyd Howerton, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ada’s family is grateful for her legacy of loving generosity. A memorial service will be held in remembrance of Ada at Stonebriar Community Church at 3:00 p.m. on September 6, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Insight for Living Ministries Building Fund. What a great legacy of faithfulness and service Ada (and Carroll) have left with friends and acquaintances. I am honored to have known them and will sure miss seeing Ada each Sunday morning to catch up. I am lifting up the family and friends with prayer and thanksgiving.
Thank you Ada for hosting all those men’s Friday morning prayer breakfasts. You were a blessing to many men for many years.
