Long, Mildred "Midge" V.
Obituary
Mildred “Midge” Veronica Long “Mom” was born in Harrisburg, PA on June 13, 1930 and was raised on a farm in eastern Pennsylvania. One of seven children from Mike and Veronica Vanyo. She was 83 years old and had a full and loving life. Mom’s light passed from this world on November 21, 2013 at 1:38 P.M.
She is survived by her sister Margie Worsley, her children, Betty Murdock, Jim Long and David Long, as well as her grandchildren, Jennifer Slaughter, Sean Murdock, Andrea Macias and Kathy Long. Though our Mother has left us, we will carry her light inside forever.
Everyone has someone special in their lives. Someone that inspires them, directs them, molds them into the person they ultimately become. For many of us, we call that person Mom. It may not even be your birth mother, it could just be that special care giver that made your life mean something.
My Mother, Mildred Veronica Long, was that special person. She was always there to help and to comfort. Her house was the one where all the kids wanted to play. She was the one who never thought she could cook yet always had people fighting for seconds.
She loved Texas Hold’em and would play for hours online. Routinely there would be trips to the casinos called “Therapy” by her. Probably the one thing that got her closest to cursing too. She loved to sit by the lake to fish or simply watching the Walton’s on TV. And let us not forget her love for Polka music!
I know she would not consider herself an Angel or even someone special for that matter. Those of you who knew her, understand the truth. I could list wonderful things about Mom to the lengths of the earth. The accolades could never truly describe her. She was strength in adversity, calm in a storm, ease for what ails you and the life of the party all wrapped into one. A superhero without a name. A star without the praise. Our Mother.
I am sure she will see the sunshine again and feel the warm touch of love on her face. As she spends all of eternity reunited with her loving Husband, Fred and her two children, Kathy and Fred. We will miss you Mom. You will forever be in our hearts.
Mom wishes were to be cremated. Her ashes will be buried above my Father – Fred Long and next to our Brother – Fred Long and Sister – Kathleen Rountree at Concord Cemetery in Wood County Texas.
The funeral service will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church located at 600 South Jupiter Rd, Richardson, TX 75081 at 10:30 AM on Tuesday December 3, 2013 with the burial taking place at the Concord Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
