Obituary
Richard William Guhin, the son of Frances and Mary (Cole) Guhin was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on October 23, 1926. He passed away on February 22, 2014 at Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Plano, Texas at the age of 87 years. Dick was raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota and enlisted in the US Army Air Corp prior to his high school graduation. He served in WWII and was discharged in1947. He attended Northern State Teachers College before transferring to the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Dick was married to Margaret (Peg) Pusl on February 4, 1950. They settled in Omaha, Nebraska with Dick working for the Kellogg’s Cereal Company. It was in Omaha that their twin daughters Kathleen and Cynthia were born. The family moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where children Patrick, Daniel, Margaret, Joseph, Richard Jr, and Mary were born. After moving to Bettendorf, Iowa their son John was born. In 1967 Dick began working with Chenhall Employment Service managing the temporary industrial division with Peg joining him to manage the secretarial division. They later purchased the business and operated it until their retirement. After residing in Bettendorf, Iowa for 50 years, Dick and Peg moved to St. Joseph’s Village Assisted Living Home in Coppell, TX. They later settled at Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Plano, TX where Peg continues to live. The family would like to thank Dr. John Hughes, Dr. Adina Dusa and Dr. Seema Modi and caregivers Gladys Mufakose, Rosalind Mugo and Perpetua Gitau for their care and compassion during Dick’s extended illness. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Howard Guhin, Doris Nelson, Jeanne Walz, Francis Guhin Margaret Port and Robert Guhin. He is survived by Peg, his bride of 64 years, his children Kathleen (Bruce) Sterba of Coppell, TX, Cynthia (Robert) Mayer of Omaha, NE, Patrick Guhin (Claudia Steadman) of Milwaukee, WI, Daniel (Angela) Guhin of Bettendorf, IA, Margaret (Richard) Schenck of Harlan, IA, Joseph (Carla) Guhin of Lafayette, LA, Richard (Katherine) Guhin of Bettendorf, IA, Mary (Phillip) Whitaker of Plano, TX and John Guhin (Lynn Maxwell) of LeCaire, IA. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Selle and her husband Richard of Loveland, CO, 22 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 1 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Chapel, St Joseph’s Village 1201 E. Sandy Lake Rd, Coppell, TX, Msgr Robert Rehkemper presiding. Mass will be preceded by a Rosary at 10:15 a.m. There will be a luncheon after mass at the home of daughter Mary, 3612 Shantara Lane, Plano, TX 75093. An inurnment ceremony will be at a later date in Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery. A future memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf, Iowa where Dick and Peg were active members for over 50 years. In leiu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick’s name to Holy Family Chapel Endowment, Christus St. Joseph Village, 1201 E. Sandy Lake Rd, Coppell, TX 75019 Attn: Msgr. Robert Rehkemper. Dick will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness and compassion and his deep faith. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
