Martin, Treva M.
Obituary
MARTIN, Treva Mayola (1926-2015) She lived a life full of love, laughter and happiness. Her smile was sunshine and her hugs were the warm sun on a beautiful spring morning. Treva Mayola Martin, “Mayola” to her many friends, passed away on March 13, 2015 at the age of 88 after her long battle against Parkinson’s disease.
Mayola Martin was born June 06, 1926 in Canton, OK. During World War II, Mayola moved with her mother Captola Thrasher to Long Beach, CA. Her mother was one of the many “Rosie the Riverters” supporting her family and the war efforts. Mayola finished high school in Long Beach while waiting for her long-time Canton High School boyfriend (soon to be husband) Kenneth “Ken” Martin to return from the war. In 1944 Mayola and Ken were married then returned to Oklahoma so that Ken could attend Oklahoma University. In the late 40’s early 50’s, Mayola and Ken moved to Dallas, TX. Working as a stay at home mom until 1971, Mayola reentered the work place and became an executive secretary, which she loved.
She is preceded in death by her mother and husband. Mayola is survived by her two children Ken Martin and his partner Dean Pettit, Kimberlee Sulier and her husband Joe Sulier, her grandchildren Sean McLaughlin and his wife Jordan, Shannon Silvertsen and her husband Stone, Catlin McLaughlin and her great grandchild Haley McLaughlin. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and loved ones.
Mayola will be laid to rest in her home town of Canton Oklahoma. A celebration of Mayola’s life will be held in the near future, date pending. Mayola loved animals and in lieu of flowers, a donation to the SPCA would be appreciated.
