Fenton, Jocelyn Y.

JOCELYN YOUNG FENTON       3/25/49 – 7/21/2015   With deep sorrow, I announce the death of Jocelyn Fenton of Dallas, TX.  She succumbed to esophageal cancer, which she’d been fighting on and off since 2013.  It was a blessing that during periods of remission since then, Jocelyn was still able to enjoy life, family and travel some of the time. She was pre-deceased by her mother, Adelaide “Su-Lin” Young, her father Col. Jack T. Young, USA (Ret.), many uncles and aunts, and her favorite cousin Roger Wing. She leaves behind her loving husband George Fenton, her sister Jolly King (and husband Rich King), her sister Jackie Wan (and husband Willie Wan), her brother Jack Young (and wife Sharon Young), her niece  Vicki Chapman (and husband Dan Chapman, and grand-niece Sako Chapman), her nephew Brad Wan (and wife Tara Massengill), her uncle Wayman Wing, her aunt Meme Luke, cousins Sandy Wing, Donna Liu, her step-children Jacqueline Fenton, Alice Fenton (and husband, Xav Fijac) and Michael Fenton (and fiancé, Rebecca Keane, plus their brand-new baby Harrison Fenton), her in-laws Ann and Michael Moont, and a whole host of other close relatives. Jocelyn was a smart, vital and beautiful woman.  She attended Jamaica HS in New York, and then graduated from Oberlin College (Ohio) in 1978 with a B.A. in sociology.  While there, she became a bit of a pool shark, competing successfully in collegiate Pocket Billiards. She received an M.A. in Criminology from the U. of Pa. in 1973.  She then taught at the U. of Southern Maine as an assistant Professor in sociology and criminal justice.  Excelling as usual, in 1982 Jocelyn was invited to be a consultant to, and reviewer for, the National Institute for Mental Health. In 1984, Jocelyn surprised everyone by leaving academia, to move into the high-tech industry, first as a systems analyst, then a technical analyst, and later into sales.  She sold Technical Support Services, or “air”, as she liked to say: basically offering call-center services to the software industry.  Through the years, she held senior management positions at Datapro, Softmart, Sykes, Sitel and Sento.  She retired in 2002, after (successfully) battling breast cancer for the first time. Jocelyn lived in Dallas on two separate occasions.  Her first stay was from 1983 through 1987.  She then settled here permanently in 1991.  That year, she and George met, and the two married in 1992. Jocelyn enjoyed life, and loved her family and friends.  Her large family is scattered over the entire USA and beyond, and she visited her relatives and friends often.  Between visits, she was an avid communicator, showering her family and friends with some great cards, letters and emails.  She was a good listener, and let others talk if they wanted, but her wicked sense of humor would usually shine out.  She loved to travel, and she and George managed to see some wonderful places.  Jocelyn kept active and fit, and her adventures included bike tours in France and Holland.  Also, she was an expert at nurturing orchids Her most cherished trip was a safari to Kenya and Tanzania in 2006, but visits to Italy (twice) and Spain were also high on her list of delights.  Over the years, she managed to see most of Australia’s highlights, as side-trips to her and George’s many trips to see his family in Sydney. Jocelyn supported many charities, and has included a couple of her favorites in her will.  She is desperately-missed, and will be in our hearts and minds forever. Jocelyn wanted a private cremation, to be followed by a family reunion / memorial gathering sometime in the future.  Arrangements to be advised.
