Trudeau, Steven Ross

Steven Ross Trudeau (b. 07/06/46) passed peacefully from this port on February 13.

He was a beloved husband to Ruth Kelly Trudeau; caring father to Wayne Trudeau and his wife, Evelyn; loving grandpa to Nicole and Michelle; playful brother to Sharon Trudeau, Noel Trudeau and Tim Trudeau and his wife Tina; and kind uncle to Belinda Trudeau, Danielle Trudeau and Deanna Trudeau.

Steve graduated from University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Geology (1970) and spent his career in minerals and petroleum.  He was proud Life Member of the UT Ex-Students Association (membership no. 14,000).

Steve was active in numerous professional organizations: Dallas Geological Society, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists and American Association of Petroleum Geologists.  He had a General Aviation Pilot’s license and as a member of the Grapevine Sailing Club, was an avid racer of his Catalina 22 (named Archaeopteryx, a bird-like dinosaur whose name means “first wing”).

Steve loved the earth and the sky; now his spirit sails and his soul free to fly.  A celebration of life is scheduled for 3 P.M. at Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church March 24.

Steve Trudeau Memorial Art Fund benefiting Candlelighters

Steve was in the first group of adults with early onset dementia which began at Horizon Unitarian Universalist Chuch in 2012.  This group, called Candlelighters, was initiated by John and Peggy Gill who saw a need for a very special community to be served.  Candlelighters exists to benefit adults from the wider community, not just those who attend Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church.

With the Gill’s leadership and the volunteers they gathered, Steve thrived in expressing his feelings about this dreadful disease.

He found art to be very helpful.  His creative expressions in color and form on canvas gave him the ability to speak in ways the dementia was destroying.

Others, too, were provided an opportunity to express themselves through the arts: painting, as well as movement and music.

Contributions to Steve Trudeau Memorial Art Fund benefit the continuing efforts of Candlelighters to bring creativity, expressiveness and dignity to adults with early onset dimentias.  Donations should be made to:  Horizon UU Church, 1641 West Hebron Parkway; Carrollton, TX 75010, note “For Candlelighters.”
