In Loving Memory of Albert T. Scherbarth

Albert T. Scherbarth, beloved Dallas artist, sculptor, and creative force in The Cedars, passed away at the age of 70, (February 18, 2026) leaving behind a city forever shaped by his vision — and his steel.

Born in Fairbury, Nebraska, (March 25, 1955) Albert carried with him a Midwestern work ethic and an early appreciation for open skies and open possibilities. An athlete in his youth and an artist at heart, he eventually found his way to Dallas, where he earned his MFA and began building not just a career, but a community.

Albert was best known for transforming industrial materials into thoughtful, often striking works of art. Steel, wood, glass, clay and paint — in his hands, they became fences that felt like sculpture, furniture and art that doubled as conversation pieces, and large-scale works that quietly anchored the neighborhoods around them. His studio in The Cedars became both a creative workshop and a gathering place, reflecting his deep investment in the local arts scene.

Those who knew Albert remember his steady presence, sharp eye, and generous spirit. He mentored younger artists, collaborated freely, and believed in the value of making things by hand — slowly, intentionally, and with care. His work was bold but never boastful, much like the man himself.

Beyond the art, Albert leaves behind friendships forged over shared projects, late-night discussions about design, and a mutual appreciation for good craftsmanship. His influence can be seen not only in the pieces that stand throughout Dallas, but in the artists and neighbors who continue to create because he encouraged them to do so.

Albert's legacy is built — quite literally — into the fabric of the city he loved.

He will be deeply missed and long remembered.

He is survived by his three sisters-Karen Rosenkrans, Ilene Scherbarth, and Marie Ney. He was preceded in death by his parents Grant and Barbara Scherbarth.
