POINDEXTER, Alene Elizabeth (Fusselman), beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, age 96, passed away on Monday the 7th of October 2024 in Dallas, Texas. She is being met in heaven by her husband, Harold Ralph, and her oldest son, Jerrell Ralph Poindexter.
Alene was born January 23, 1928 in Mathis, Texas to John Albert and Florence May (Nelson) Fusselman. She was raised in Mathis and attended Mathis Public Schools. After high school she moved to San Antonio to attend Medical & Surgical Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1948. This diploma nursing school was a precursor to the now Baptist Health Systems School of Health Professions which houses the earliest AD program for nursing in the state of Texas.
While in nursing school in San Antonio, she met Ralph at an Army Air Corp dance at Fort Sam Houston. They married on Sept 7th, 1948 in Mathis, Texas and moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas for Ralph to attend Arkansas State University. While Ralph attended college Alene worked as an obstetrics nurse in Jonesboro, Arkansas and Paragould, Arkansas. After Ralph graduated from ASU they moved to Mathis until Ralph was accepted in Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas.
After Ralph graduated from dental school, they moved and made their first home in Lantana, Florida. Alene and Ralph spent 10 wonderful years in Florida, enjoying their five children, friends and church family. In 1966, the family moved back to Texas. They made their home in Richardson, where Ralph practiced dentistry for 21 years while Alene excelled as a mother and homemaker. They were members of Abrams Road Church of Christ that became Richardson East Church of Christ for more than 50 years. She loved shopping, cooking, sewing, crosswords, puzzles, and any craft she found.
She was preceded in death by her parents; John and May Fusselman, Her husband, H. Ralph Poindexter DDS, her son Jerrell R. Poindexter DDS, her sisters, Irene Carmichael and Margaret Whipple and many dear friends. Alene is survived by daughter Carol and Andy Parcel of Carrollton; daughter Jane and Joe McManus of Katy; daughter Joyce and Bill Anthony of Garland; son John and Dana Poindexter of Richardson; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
A private burial will be held at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.
