Obituary

Alice (De La Vega Jordan) Jenks, age 87, passed away on January 16, 2026. She was peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Alice fought a valiant four-year battle against lung and pancreatic cancer. Her unwavering "never give up" spirit was an inspiration to her doctors, friends and family alike. Her oncologist affectionately referred to Alice as her "Rock Star," often sharing how Alice's determination inspired not only her, but also her other patients.

Alice met the love of her life, Ron Jenks, while working as a stenographer at Fort Bliss Army base in El Paso, Texas. Ron, originally from Lansing, Michigan, was stationed there during his military service. They met at a drive-in restaurant and instantly "I knew he was the one". After a whirlwind romance of just two months, they were married. Their beautiful partnership lasted 65 years.

Together, Alice and Ron raised two sons, Ernest and Dean Jenks. The family spent many happy years in El Paso, Texas, before relocating to Oregon for eight years, where Ernest and his family still reside. A true Texan, and seeking more sunshine, Alice returned and settled in Plano, Texas, which was home for the last 26 years.

Alice is survived by her beloved husband, Ron Jenks; her sons, Ernest Jenks and his wife, Susan, and Dean Jenks and his wife, Beth; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Ron (RJ), Rachel, and Zach Jenks. Alice is also survived by older sister, Mary Selby, of Colorado Springs, CO., and younger brother, Raymond De La Vega, of Santa Theresa, NM.

Throughout her life, Alice was known for her kindness and generosity. She was always going the extra mile to help others and placing the needs of others before her own. She often said, "A friend in need is a friend indeed," a saying she lived by every day. Alice loved to socialize with friends at home and at the bowling alley. She expressed her love through cooking and was especially known for her rice and beans, "famous" cheese tacos and her beloved deviled eggs. These dishes often brought family and friends together at the table.

Alice had a deep love for the Christmas season. She collected Christmas cards throughout her life. For many years she transformed her home into a holiday showcase by decorating every wall with taped cards from her cherished collection. This was televised by local news stations and in newspapers. It truly filled the house with warmth and holiday joy.

Alice will be remembered for her strength, compassion, joyful traditions, and especially her devotion to family. Her legacy of love, resilience, and holiday cheer will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
