Obituary

Alva Annette (Bell) Sam was born on September 27, 1955, to Corina Bell in Eunice, Louisiana. She was the eldest and only girl of four children. Surrounded by her loving family, she transitioned to eternity with her Lord on June 3, 2024 in Garland, Texas at her home.

Alva lived in Eunice, Louisiana and attended Charles Drew High School until the integration in 1969 that brought her to Eunice High School where she graduated in May 1973. Alva attended LSUE and had a long career in Eunice at Moosa Memorial Hospital in dietary services then as the PBX Operator. She moved to Dallas, Texas in 2002. Alva was employed as part of the management team for Walmart until she retired to take care of her grandchildren. She was an exemplary manager and treated her guests and employees with the utmost respect.

Alva accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. Alva was raised in Golden Star Baptist Church as a child in which she sang in the choir. In her adult life, she was a longtime member of St. Mathilda Catholic Church where she attended with faithfulness with her family.

Alva's hobbies consisted of fashion, sewing, crafting, creative decorating and spending quality time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her "Grandma and Granny." She also never missed an opportunity to brag about her grandchildren. They were the fuel to her fire and she loved them unconditionally. Her family and friends in her hometown nicknamed and know her as "Tootie". Alva enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, was the life of the party, and was always there if you needed her. She has always enjoyed the simpler things in life but with a bit of bling. She was often described as selfless, caring, giving, loyal, strong, faithful and an independent person who loved hard. She always practiced God's word throughout her daily life.

Alva was a loving mother, sister, aunt and a devoted grandmother. She loved her family graciously. Those left to cherish precious memories include her daughter's Kimberly Blatchford of Hollister, Fl and Coretha Powell of Garland, Tx; her grandchildren - Biannca Bell, Xavier Harper, Christopher Powell III, Camryn Powell, and Carter Powell; her brothers-Kenneth Thomas of Beaumont, Texas, Gregory Bell of Eunice, Louisiana and Gerald Victorian of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends who will forever remember her loving spirit.

Alva was preceded in death by her mother, Corina Bell; her grandmother Sarah Keller Harris; her uncles-Henry Harris and Walter Harris and her son, Linton Keith Bell.

A beautiful woman of God has left this earth, but God gained an even more beautiful angel! Her legacy of love, faith and strength will continue through her two children, Kimberly and Coretha, her grandchildren and all who were blessed to know and love her.
