Amelia ("Mille") Claire Byko Kessler, passed away November 15, 2024 peacefully at the age of 103 three days shy of her 104th birthday. Mille was born November 19, 1920, to Michael Byko and Mary Coneski Byko in Plainfield, New Jersey.
Mille grew up in Plainfield NJ with 3 younger sisters. After graduating from Muhlenberg School of Nursing in 1940 she began her 40-year surgical RN nursing career, which took her to NYC, Miami , San Francisco and back to NJ. She married Benjamin Robert Kessler in 1947 in Reno, Nevada. In 1949 with a baby on the way they returned to Plainfield, New Jersey ultimately making Manasquan NJ her family's permanent residence until she moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida in 1992. She moved to Dallas Texas in 2016. Following Mille's nursing career she enjoyed her time playing golf with the "Bel-Aire Babes", daily boardwalk walks, volunteering for the Deborah Hospital Foundation, NYC theater and shopping trips, and serving as travel coordinator for the Lehigh Acres Florida Senior Center. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed watching the team play. When her grandson, Sam, was born she immediately sent a note and photo to Coach Lou Holtz advising him to save a roster spot for him. She never missed an opportunity to be with friends and family and was always the gracious host.
Her secret to longevity was always being her best self, dressing to the nines, with hair and makeup to match.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters, Dorothy Paul Stapleton and Eileen McIntyre. She is survived by her son Gary (Joan), grandson Samuel (Roxanne) and sister Jean Byko, along with nieces, great nieces and nephews.
Mille spent her last 8 years living at Juliette Fowler Communities Dallas, Texas and we thank them for their loving and nurturing care along with her private caregivers Josephine Atkins and Laura Hernandez.
