Andrew Phillip
Thrasher
Dec 24, 1986 — Jan 15, 2026
Andrew Phillip Thrasher was born on December 24, 1986, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, to Janice and Phillip Thrasher. From an early age, Andrew was known for his freckled smile, infectious laughter, unwavering loyalty, and unmistakable warmth that drew both people and animals to him.
Andrew grew up in Kanata, Ontario, and moved to Plano, Texas, in 1997. Much of his childhood and his lifelong love of the outdoors was shaped by time spent in the Ottawa Valley at the family cottage on Round Lake. There, he enjoyed swimming, boating, bonfires, golfing, water skiing, and music. Round Lake remained close to Andrew's heart throughout his life, and he often called it his favorite place on earth. It was there that Andrew's happiest summer memories were made and years later, where he proposed to the love of his life, Natalie.
Hockey found Andrew early in life and never let go. What began with mini sticks in the basement and street hockey grew into shinny games on the frozen Ottawa River and his first organized league play with the Kanata Minor Hockey Association, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of the game. His youth hockey journey included USA Hockey programs such as the Ice Hawks, Penguins, Dallas Stars (Pee Wee), Dallas Metro, Team Northwest in Edmonton, Plano West, Alliance, and the Dallas Storm. In 2000 his Dallas Stars team was the first from Texas to compete in the prestigious Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament, and Andrew earned back-to-back appearances at the USA Hockey National Championships. He later played hockey in Pembroke, Ontario, with the Lumber Kings, and at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, with Mercyhurst Club Hockey. Most recently, Andrew found deep fulfillment in coaching with the Dallas Penguins through the Dallas Junior Hockey Association. Hockey was never just a sport to Andrew. It was a place where he built discipline, camaraderie, and lifelong connections, and where he loved sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
As Andrew moved into adulthood, the same joy, resilience, loyalty, and contagious laughter that defined his early years continued to guide his life. These qualities shaped the friendships, relationships, sense of purpose, and love that came to define his greatest roles.
In 2019, Andrew reconnected with his wife, Natalie (Beasley). Though they had attended high school together, their relationship blossomed later in life, growing steadily and deeply during the quiet months of the COVID shutdown. Together, they learned to love the small, quiet moments at home, building a partnership rooted in love, laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support. Each brought a dog into the relationship, Lily and Ruthie, who quickly became inseparable, forming what Andrew proudly called their "Thrasher Pack."
Andrew proposed in July 2022 on Round Lake. The moment was simple and perfect, on a boat in the middle of the lake, surrounded by the place Andrew loved most.
Andrew and Natalie were married on March 18, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, celebrating the wedding of their dreams with their dearest family and friends. They later honeymooned in Maui, an unforgettable trip filled with joy, rest, and gratitude.
On May 25, 2025, Andrew and Natalie welcomed their daughter, Elliott Jill Thrasher, lovingly called Elle. Becoming a father was the greatest joy of Andrew's life. Though he was given only a short time in that role, he embraced it fully and beautifully. His love for Elle was fierce, tender, and filled with hope for her future. Andrew was present in every glance, every protective instinct, and every quiet moment spent holding her close.
Above all else, Andrew was most proud of being a husband and a father. He was deeply devoted to Natalie, keeping life lighthearted while being fiercely protective of his family. He was endlessly loyal to his wife, his daughter, and to friends and family near and far. Andrew knew when to joke, when to listen, and when to stand firm with love and strength. He loved Natalie's quirks, supported her fully, and showed up each day as a steady and faithful partner.
Andrew lived with a quiet faith, trusting God through both joy and hardship. He passed away on January 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and love that will continue through the family he cherished, the friendships he formed, and the lives he shaped.
A celebration of Andrew's life will be held on Tuesday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. A reception will follow for family, friends, and hockey teammates, players, and families whose lives Andrew touched. All who loved Andrew are invited to gather, remember, and honor a life marked by loyalty, laughter, and deep abiding love.
Andrew's life, though far too short, was marked by passion, love, and quiet strength. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of the game, and the way he showed up fully for the people and things he cared about most.
Andrew is survived by his beloved wife, Natalie; his treasured daughter, Elliott Jill Thrasher; his parents, Phil and Janice Thrasher; aunts and uncles Robert and Sonia Elliott, Anne Scott, Elizabeth and Scott Robinson, Judy Farrell, and Kevin and Steph Thrasher; and cousins Jamie, Kimberly, Richard, Amy, Angie, Lauren, Cale, Matt, Mack, and Saoirse.
Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Burt and Elaine Elliott and Grace and Mendel Thrasher; his uncle's Bob Scott and Larry Farrell; and his best friend, Joe Covino.
