Barbara Ann Buchanan, known by her friends as "Barbi" and by her grandkids as "Baba", went to her eternal home last month on July 15th. Born on November 19th, 1937 in Galveston, Texas, Barbi was a force to be reckoned with from the start.
Spending most of her early life in Houston, Texas, she met and married her first husband and had two lovely daughters, Pamela and Brenda. When the girls were young she made her way to the DFW area with them and started a life there. Barbi was ambitious and was the queen of odd jobs. She was one of the first saleswomen to sell computers, she was a freelance illustrator, she became a substitute teacher later in life, and was a published author.
In the early 2000's, she met the love of her life, Michael Buchanan, through a singles group in Fort Worth, Texas. They had their first date at Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant and married in Las Vegas in the Spring of 2003. It didn't matter what they were doing together they just loved each other's company and loved the easy conversations that they shared.
Barbi was curious about everything and dove into every artistic craft she could find. She wrote and published several books. She was a brilliant painter and illustrator. She could sew up a dress for herself in a few hours. She was always the best dressed in the room with a coordinating outfit complete with matching shoes and earrings. Most important of all, though, she was a devoted believer in the Lord. She trusted that the Lord heard and answered her prayers and was open to talking about it! We know that the Lord was right there with her welcoming her into Heaven.
We will miss her quick and witty sense of humor, her incredible optimism, and her fiery red pigtails. She was our matriarch.
She is survived by her husband, Michael, her daughters, Pamela and Brenda, lots of grandkids and great grandkids, and family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Her spirit will live on in all of us.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
