On Saturday, October 5, 2019, our precious Daddy, Granddaddy, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend, entered eternal rest.

Samuel Clinton Barbee, Jr. was born April 7, 1936 in Tyler, Texas to Ann (ne Elliott) and Samuel Clinton Barbee. The eldest of three sons, Clinton attended Mount Auburn Elementary School in Dallas; Junior High School in Little Rock, Arkansas; High Schools in Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas; and graduated from Ysleta High School in El Paso, Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree in dairy manufacturing from Texas Tech University in 1957.

During college years, Clinton spent summers working for Borden and living with grandparents in Tyler. At Tech, he was active in the Baptist Student Union and got a kick out of playing tub bass in the BSU band (later rekindling this interest with a group at FBCRichardson).

Clinton was introduced, through family, to the love of his life, Beuna Reed. They were married in Fort Benning, Georgia in 1959 shortly after he was drafted into the US Army. He served as a communications specialist in Germany.

His career included work with Safeway (Lucerne and Cragmont divisions) and Dr Pepper Company, Tom Thumb Foodstores, and glass container corporations. Clinton's years with Safeway took his growing family to many places in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, each place a new adventure. In 1969, his family of five settled in Richardson.

Clinton's favorite pastimes were his wife and family. Over the years, he participated in Ham Radio, Toastmasters, Junior Achievement, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, and newspaper delivery (both as a young man in Little Rock, and helping son Steve with routes in Richardson/Dallas). Clinton and Beuna were always eager to travel, whether across the state, the country, or to the UK. They were known for taking spontaneous road trips to visit family, memorable places, landmarks, or even to try an out-of-the-way restaurant. In addition to the tub bass, Clinton played the ukulele and Wurlitzer organ; he enjoyed gospel and bluegrass music. We treasure the blanket of unconditional love and the encouragement he provided his family. And we'll miss his silly jokes, witty answers, and his double victory sign wave goodbye.

Active in First Baptist Richardson for over 50 years, Clinton served as a Greeter, lending a hand and a smile to those entering his door. He attended the Fellowship Class Adult Sunday School and was also faithful in helping with the International Friends ESL group. Some of his dearest friendships were forged through these activities. Clinton loved the Lord.

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Mary Ann; brother George Edward; and devoted wife of 47 years, Beuna. Clinton is survived by two daughters Lisa Barbee, of Dallas, Texas and Kathy Barbee, of Weatherford, Texas; a son Steve, daughter-in-law Brenda, and grandson Sam Barbee, of Garland, Texas; granddaughter Katia and her husband Oscar Gonzalez, of Saginaw, Texas; and a brother Howard and his wife Joan Barbee of Midland, Texas. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, and cousins from both the Barbee and Reed families; special sisters-in-law Geneva Petticrew of McAlester, Oklahoma and Earlene Reed of Tyler, Texas; dear neighbors; and loving Church family.

A celebration of Clinton's life will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. First Baptist Richardson 1001 North Central Expressway Richardson, Texas 75080.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to many healthcare professionals for their expert and compassionate care during Clinton's journey: Dr. Howard Mintz and staff Susan and Sinai; Dr. Charles Levin and staff Shirley and Maria; and the teams of physicians, nurses, and technicians at Medical City Dallas Hospital. Grateful acknowledgment is also extended to the staff and church family of First Baptist Richardson and to Aria Cremation and Funeral Services.
