Carl Wayne Barber,70, died at his residence in Plano on October 22nd. Wayne, as many of you called him, was born on July 2nd in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Leta Iris and Elton Brown Barber with one older sister by his side. He grew up as a Baptist and enjoyed playing sports. At the age of 17 he enlisted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968 as a radio operator for a LRRP team. After coming back into the states he attended Western State College to pursue and graduate with a masters degree in Education. He then taught for a couple of years in Colorado and moved down to Texas where he taught at Aldridge elementary in PISD for 30 years before finally retiring. Outside of his school life, Wayne loved traveling down to the VFW (post 8627) where he would sit, drink, and socialize with many of people here today. He could be seen anywhere whether it be at the monthly Brunch, steak night, annual chili cook off or fish fry, rolling dice or playing pin ball machines. Some other activities he enjoyed included fishing, hunting, reading books, or watching western movies. Last but not least he was an AMAZING cook and loved baking! He is survived by his son Michael "Eric" Barber; and daughter Kelly Michelle Barber and precious grandson Brandon Wayne Smith. Wayne also has a couple nephews and nieces. Funeral Services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church located at 1801 W Plano Pkwy, Plano, TX 75075 @ 10:30-11:15. Immediately after he will be escorted by motorcade straight to the DFW National Cemetery where the ceremony will begin at 1:15. After the ceremony a memorial service will be held in honor of Wayne at the VFW located at 1040 Hampshire Ln, Richardson, TX 75080 @ 2:00. A late lunch will be served and words of remembrance can be spoke by anyone willing to do so! Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
