Obituary for Bette Sue "Susie" Streng

Bette Sue Blossom Streng, 87, passed away after a long and adventurous life on November 1, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was known for her love of family and friends, being a champion of women, her fierce loyalty, her love of adventures big and small, and her dedication to those in need.

Born on April 23, 1938 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Susie grew up with a passion for horses and anything having to do with the outdoors. She never backed away from a challenge or an adventure. She graduated from Little Rock Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas, where her father was superintendent of schools during the Little Rock Central High crisis. This experience shaped and prepared her for many challenges the rest of her life. She went on to earn an undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University and a master's degree at North Texas State University.

Susie had a varied career over the years, always searching for ways to make her community a better place. She started her career at Women for Change (Women's Center of Dallas), the YWCA of Dallas, taught at Eastfield College, and was the Executive Director a Bryan's House. After the passing of her beloved husband of 12 years, Dr. Frederick J. Streng, Susie moved to Colorado to continue her love of the outdoors and work in real estate. In Colorado, she connected with a fabulous friend group, went on many hiking, rafting and camping adventures, and was a dedicated member of her church serving on the board several years and involved in the mentoring program.

Susie leaves behind a legacy of love and service. She would do anything for her friends and family, loved cooking and hosting, and always had time for those who needed it. She cherished her children and her grandchildren for which she would travel to attend sporting events and milestones. Her loyalty will be remembered by all who knew her.

Susie is survived by her sister Gail Moore; her children Steven Deane (Alicia), Lisa Lovell (Jeff) and Elizabeth Devoll (Kirk); her grandchildren Keaton and Kenan Townes, Jack Lovell, Lauren Devoll, Ashley Van Yperen (Micah), and Victoria Devoll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Streng and Mark Streng.
