Obituary

Blanca Estela Hernandez was a woman with a vibrant spirit and enduring strength—lovingly described by those who knew her best as "spicy." She was full of laughter, quick to dance, and carried a fullness of spirit that will not be forgotten. Blanca's humor, warmth, and fierce love became part of the foundation upon which the next generations of strong, independent women in her family were, and continue to be, formed. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will continue to live strong and with good humor in all who were shaped by her life.

For the last several years, while not allowing the loss of her sight to hold her back, Blanca lived most often independently in Brownsville, Texas, persevering through that blindness with a relentless tenacity. More recently, she moved to Aubrey, Texas, to live with her daughter, Esmeralda Montiel-Locke, her son-in-law, Keith Locke (AKA 'John Boy'), and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This all too-brief season was marked by deep family connection, care, and compassion—an intentional effort to surround her with the love she would profoundly need in her final days.

Following a sudden hospitalization due to injuries suffered in Brownsville and subsequent surgery in Aubrey, Blanca experienced complications that could not be overcome. Her immediate family came close, sitting bedside with her as she fought to recover. Though her passing came suddenly and unexpectedly, her final days were filled with family, faith, and peace. She both questioned and praised God until the end and spoke openly of her readiness to go home to heaven, confident that she would see Jesus and see her family again. While her family grieves her sudden departure, they also rejoice in the assurance that she is now whole, restored, and living in fullness in the presence of God.

Blanca was preceded in life by her parents, Servando Martinez and Virginia Zuniga, and her stepfather, Jesus Zuniga, as well as her brother, Reynaldo Martinez.

She is survived by her siblings, Servando Martinez and Mary Ruiz.

She leaves behind her children, Esmeralda Montiel-Locke, Manuel Montiel, Jr., Yvonne Garza, and Jose Hernandez, who carry forward her legacy of strength, resilience, and love.

Her joy continues through her grandchildren, Clara Estela Partee, Madeline A. Alarcon, Sophia A. Alarcon, Ricky Zavala, Christian Saucillo, and Haley Saucillo, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Xavier R. Partee and Haven A. Partee.

Blanca Estela Hernandez lived with passion, faith, and a fervent heart. She was deeply loved, and she will be profoundly missed—until the day her family is reunited with her again.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Blanca's memory may make a contribution toward funeral home expenses. The family is deeply grateful for any kindness extended during this time.

In accordance with Blanca's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, she asked that her family—spread across many places—celebrate her life in their own communities, gathering in joy, laughter, music, and remembrance.
