Bonnie Jean Gatlin Stevens, 92, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. She was born on August 13, 1929 in Memphis, Tennessee to Herbert Gatlin and Willo Jones Gatlin. Bonnie graduated from Bartlett High School in 1947 and attended business school in Memphis. She married Billy Stevens on November 22, 1951. After relocating to Richardson, Texas, Bonnie was employed by the Richardson Independent School District. She served as a paraprofessional librarian at Berkner High School and a secretary at Richardson High School, retiring in 1992. Family and friends will attest that Bonnie was a very sweet woman who loved everyone unconditionally. She also loved every four legged animal that she ever met, and gave a home to many of them. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by husband Billy Stevens and brothers Herbert Gatlin, Jr. and Demoy Gatlin. She is survived by daughter Kay (Tim) Gilligan, Livingston, Texas; son Clay (Jacquelyn) Stevens, Dallas, Texas; granddaughters Valerie (Michael) Gartee, Dickinson, Texas, Maggie Gilligan, Copperas Cove, Texas; grandson Michael (Anna) Gilligan, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; great granddaughter Sadie Manchaca, Dickinson, Texas. The family extends their gratitude to Francine Davis and Laura Davis for the loving care they provided to Mom/Granny. We also thank the caring staffs at Twin Rivers Assisted Living and Amity Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at First United Methodist Church Richardson on Thursday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. If desired memorial gifts can be made to the Alzheimers Association (alz.org) or Network of Community Ministries (thenetwork.org) where Bonnie volunteered many hours of service to her community.
