Obituary

Dr. Edward Louis Breig, of Richardson, Texas passed on August 1, 2019, surrounded by family and those closest to him. Born October 6, 1932 in St. Marys Missouri, Ed became very diligent with his studies early in life. Graduating, Summa cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in Mathematics and Business Administration, he further pursued and attained both an M.A. and PhD degree in the field of Physics. His profession began as a Research Scientist for the University of Oklahoma and ended as a Research Engineer for the University of Texas at Dallas. His aptitude and competence contributed to operations for the U.S. Naval Electronics Lab during summers of 1959 and 1960. It was during President Eisenhowers administration, Aerospace Corporation hired Ed and others to work within the newly created laboratories division and develop satellites that could detect nuclear explosions from both space and on the ground, a.k.a. Vela Hotel reconnaissance program. Working as a Theoretical Physicist for Aerospace, he provided theoretical assistance to experimental programs and maintained a high level of activity with several classified air force programs. His professional accomplishments include: recipient of a 4 year fellowship with North American Aviation; contributing author for US National Report to International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics, 1983-1986; composer of numerous technical publications and able toastmaster of Toastmasters International. Survivors include five siblings: Marvin Breig of Charleston, IL; Mary Ann Haukap of St. Louis, MO; William Francis Breig of Springfield, MO; Patricia Power of Lewisville, TX and Joan Ponder of St. Marys MO. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Esther (Roth) Breig of St. Marys MO. Cremation arrangements are being handled through Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. The family requests any monetary contributions to go toward the Society of St. Vincent De Paul.
