Big brother, friend and family man, Robert Ragan Broyles, Jr. passed on September 16, 2019 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on January 24, 1948 in Palestine TX to parents Bob and Nell, "Ragan" had a Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Texas, Hook-em! m/. He worked for almost 40 years for the Environmental Protection Agency in emergency response and served in the Army Reserves for 27 years.
Ragan was the ultimate family man and "helper" (to quote Mr. Rogers). He volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts of America. What started with leading his son's troop turned into a lifelong passion. He also volunteered regularly at the White Rock Center of Hope. In addition to regular volunteering, Ragan was an attendee and advocate of his church home White Rock United Methodist Church. In his spare time, Ragan loved country music and dancing, which is how he met his wife Shelly while learning to dance. Ragan also enjoyed reading American and Texas history books and watching historical movies.
Ragan is survived by wife, Shelly; mother Alta Nell; children Shelley Broyles Stenoien, Angela Broyles Curanaj, Brent Broyles and their mother Linda Welch Broyles, grandchildren Abigail Stenoien, Julianne and Hana Curanaj, Reed and Nora Broyles, and Jade and Sage Goodwyn Sahwani and sisters Susan Goodson, Joanie Konecny, Missy Broyles, and Peggy Forster. He was predeceased by his father, Robert R Broyles, Sr. and his brother Clifford Broyles.
Services will be held as follows:
Memorial service on Saturday, October 19 @ 5 pm White Rock United Methodist Church, 1450 Old Gate Lane, Dallas followed by a Celebration of Life party at his daughter's home.
