Obituary

Bruce D. Edgar, 64, of Irving, TX passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Bruce was born in Corpus Christi on August 11, 1958 to the late Charles E. and Sherry Y. Schmidt Edgar. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. Bruce grew up biking around their small town running errands for his mom and visiting his dad at work; family camping trips on the beach; having fun causing mischief with his brothers and neighborhood friends; and playing every sport in school. Despite being only 140 lbs in high school, he was known to be a fierce competitor and well respected by his coaches (who were miffed by his sudden growth spurt in college). After graduating from Yorktown High School, Bruce moved to Bryan-College Station where he attended the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service and received an associates degree in electrical engineering. He moved to DFW where he met and married Elisa Bellinghausen on November 2, 1991 at Church of the Incarnation in Irving, Texas. They soon had two daughters, Lauren and Victoria. Bruce and Elisa took their first trip together to The Bahamas where he enjoyed snorkeling and island hopping, so much so that they returned for a month-long honeymoon. Bruce continued to enjoy traveling every summer on Bellinghausen family vacations and took his first trip to Europe with Elisa in 2015 to visit their oldest daughter, Lauren, who was studying abroad. His most recent adventures with his wife included trips to the Four Seasons resorts in Austin; snowy Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and sunny Los Cabos, Mexico. Bruce was very involved with his family and their activities. His girls grew up knowing that their dad would always be there to coach them in sports, cheer them on at games, applaud at their concerts, celebrate their awards, and attend church every Sunday. He devoted much time to tutoring them in various subjects and bestowing his knowledge and life experiences. Bruce was a lover of the arts and was very creative and artistic himself. He fostered their love of music from a young age and loved listening to and discussing many genres. Together they listened to everything from classical and opera, to rock, funk and K-pop. He was always open to new music suggestions from his daughters and enjoyed going to concerts. Despite living far apart, Bruce remained close to his two younger brothers, Lindy and Vance, and would spend hours on the phone chatting in between visits. He also made sure to bring his family down to south Texas to visit his mom and stepdad several times every year. Bruce loved recounting stories of growing up in South Texas. He would brag about his brothers' achievements in 4H and tennis, their carpentry and engineering skills, and laugh about the scrapes they would get into as kids. Over the years, Bruce volunteered his time to help family and friends with their home projects, moving adventures, sports training, and other needs. He was skilled in the kitchen and enjoyed making up new recipes to share. He was known for his tuna salad, tomato basil soup, pasta bake, lentil stew, cheesy garlic grits and many more ever-changing creations. He woke early every morning to make breakfast for his wife so she would start her day well, and was a true partner in their marriage as he cared for their home and family with attention and love. Bruce made it a priority to have supper with his family every evening and all four enjoyed good food, conversation and lots of laughter. Bruce held a variety of jobs over the years: working for an office moving company, selling electrical supplies and components, and then contract work installing wiring and cable. But his most recent work maintaining a golf course brought him the most joy and fulfillment. Bruce has worked at the Four Seasons Resort and Club golf course in Las Colinas for over 5 years. He always enjoyed working outside, and found the golf course a rewarding place to work diligently and utilize his expertise. He watched the sun rise on the course every morning and often shared the most beautiful skies in photos sent to his family. Bruce also loved meeting new people and quickly made friends with Four Seasons staff and members. Bruce will be remembered for his love of plants and trees and working outside, his unique Easter egg decorating method (melting crayons with a blow torch!), his late night snacking and sweet tooth, and his passion and conviction in all things. Most of all, Bruce will be remembered for loving his family. He was always willing to help those around him and will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 31 years, Elisa; daughters, Lauren and Victoria; brothers, Lindy and Vance, and their families; and many more family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
