Obituary

It is with great sorrow, that our family announces the passing of George William Burcham. The heavens gained the brightest star in the sky on November 13th, 2018. George passed away unexpectedly at home, at the age of 84.George was born in Greenville Texas, to the parentage of George Woodrow Burcham, and Edith Temple Burcham. He was a beloved member of First Baptist Greenville in his young age. He graduated from Greenville High-school in 1951, and went on to receive his bachelors degree and masters degree in science/statistics from Texas A&M University. Following College, he joined the United States Air Force, attending the rank of Captain. George was a lifelong member of Mensa International, and was an avid, highly skilled bridge player. It was often said that there wasnt a stranger that he didnt know, nor a joke that he didnt tell. George was an inspiration to all that knew him, and he was adored by his entire family. Georges children and great grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Georges kind spirit, love of football (go Cowboys!), love of reading, love of the arts, and zest for life, will live on through them. George was preceded in death by his late wife Lou Ann Ligon, his beloved parents, George Woodrow Burcham and Edith Temple Wright, loving sister Kelsey Ann Bentley, and Great Aunt and Uncle, Bill and Pearl Row. George will be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughter Nancy Gist and her husband Ron, son Lee Burcham and his wife Anna, brother Jimmy Burcham and his wife Barbra, grandchildren Kimberly Collins and Austin Burcham, and great granddaughter Lauren Collins. George will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends from the Bridge Academy of North Dallas, as well as numerous other dear friends. Service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at 2:00pm at Aria Crematorium and Funeral Home. (19310 Preston Road, Dallas TX, 75252) Burial will be at The Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, in Ceder Hill. The Burial service will be in December, and the exact date will be determined in the near future.
