David Charles Burnett was born on October 8, 1960, to Dr. James Wirt Burnett and Frances Elizabeth Gantt Burnett in Texarkana, Arkansas, and died in Dallas, Texas, on July 11, 2020, after a short illness. During his youth David excelled in piano competitions under his father's proud tutelage, and the family spent many summer days at the ball park watching him pitch! He graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas and received his B.A. from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. After college, David's most exciting job was as a floor trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and his wide range of interests and friends led him to develop an incredibly intuitive understanding of people and a special ability to communicate with them. This served him well in his sales careers-and as a sidelight, his genuine sensitivity also led to a great camaraderie with the wonderful dogs in his life! David was a member of the First United Methodist Church Richardson. In 1994, he married Donna Sewell Burnett, and they were blessed with the arrival of Austin and Katherine. Throughout his life, David loved his sports: fishing, baseball, tennis, barefoot skiing, basketball, and golf-especially when he was "in the zone". If he wasn't playing, he was watching some sport-but his favorite team was the Texas Longhorns! David's easygoing personality and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed. David is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dr. James Robert Burnett, and is survived by his son, Austin David Burnett, his daughter, Katherine Alyssa Burnett, his nephew, Dr. James W. Burnett, III, his niece, Kelly Elizabeth Burnett, his sister, Barbara Burnett Smith, and many cousins and friends. David will be interred at a later date at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Texarkana, Texas.
