Obituary

Born in Dodge City KS to Peggy Jane Baughman Button and Richard Owen Button (both deceased) Roger is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathryn Button, 4 children, Rachel Tyler, Saber Stuard, Mitra Ekhtiar and Darius Ekhtiar and 9 grandchildren, Braydon, Adri, Ella, Keyontae, Zyion, Faithlynn, Paisley, Whitten and Whitley; all cherished and loved. Roger was the last of 4 children, sisters Karen Terry, Bonnie Schraeder and brother Rick Button (deceased). Many of the family memories include Roger playing with his 7 nieces and nephews. Roger graduated from Dodge City High School in 1975. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1979 graduating with a BA in History. Following graduation Roger moved to Dallas, TX and attended Dallas Theological Seminary, graduating with a MA in Biblical Studies in 1984. From 1984 1989, Roger was a law librarian for a local Dallas firm until deciding to attend SMU Law University, graduating in 1992. Roger had a private civil litigation law firm until 2003. Shortly following closing his law practice, Roger attended Clinical Pastoral Training at Parkland Hospital and later became a board-certified hospital chaplain. Roger worked as a chaplain at Parkland and several Baylor Hospitals in the Dallas area. During the same time, Roger attended Seminary of the Southwest in Austin for 1 year in Anglican studies and then was ordained as a permanent Deacon in the Dioceses of Dallas on Dec 10, 2011. Roger was a life-long learner with particular interests in writing, teaching, preaching, critical thinking, stock trading and wood carving. His varied interests made it easy for him to relate to people from all walks of life. Friends have commented on Roger's willingness to meet others where they were and his steadfast companionship to those in pain made him a memorable friend and a very effective chaplain to those of many faiths. Even during his last hospital stay, young visiting chaplains where "chaplained" by Roger. As a deacon, Roger loved preaching, spending many hours crafting and refining his sermons. His Bible study classes at St James and St Johns had many faithful followers. He loved sharing his understanding and love of God, bringing God alive in his sermons and Bible study classes.
