Obituary

Virginia Gail George was the sixth of seven children, born on November 14, 1940 in Dallas Texas to James & Clara George. Known as Gini to her loved ones, she grew up in the Lakewood area and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. In 1960 she married Roy Glenn Dale Cook and together they had 3 children: Teri Lynn, Nanci Jean & Mitzi Gail. In 1982 she married Jim Cain. Together they enjoyed a tremendous passion for 14 years until his passing in 1997. In 2005, Gini faced heartbreak with the loss of her daughter, Nanci Jean. An avid reader, Gini began braille writing as a volunteer in 1966. She soon transitioned into a full time staff member, as an expert math textbook braillist for the Visual Aid Volunteers in downtown Garland, dedicating over 35 years of her service. Gini was a genuine, incredibly sharp and quick-witted lady with a big heart and a lack of tolerance for intolerance. She referred to herself as "Curmudgeon Cain", was not judgemental or bigoted, and was a staunch Democrat. She was elegant, stoic, and self-controlled, often offering strangers who waited at the neighborhood bus stop a "ride to town". She had a deep love for travel, nature, camping, and bird watching; and her enthusiasm for those passions passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She was the Queen of the New York Times crossword puzzle and conquered it daily, with a vocabulary more extensive than anyone thought humanly possible. She also kicked ass at, and won blue ribbons in ping-pong! Her intelligence, generosity, full heart, and infectious personality made her larger than life presence impossible to forget. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Nanci Jean; her husband Jim Cain; sister Doris Jean. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Teri Lynn Cook, Mitzi & husband Russell McCollum; grandchildren, Charlotte Dawn, Kristin Eve and Hayley Gail; siblings Carol Lillian, James Lawrence, Robert Frederick and Jack Rudolph. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Connection Pointe Church-2528 Oates Rd., Dallas, TX. Memorials may be made, if desired, to Connection Pointe Church in memory of Gini.
