Obituary

Our dear Gamma was known to most of the world as Candy, which is the perfect name for someone who was so sweet and caring. Candy was a unique person who saw the best in people. Her friends and family have noted that she was a joyful person with a beautiful infectious smile. She was very accepting and not judgmental – a true friend to many.

Candy was raised in Dallas, a member of Hillcrest High School Class of 1962, attended Texas Tech University before working at the 1964 World Fair in New York and then began her 20-year career at Braniff Airlines as a hostess. During those years, she developed her love of travel and her ability to relate to many.

While at Braniff in 1967, she transferred to Military Air Command so she could visit her brother in Vietnam. After returning to domestic travel, Candy worked and travelled the world.

She met Richard in 1972 and on May 5, 1973, they were married and began a commitment of 53 years. Candy instantly embraced Richard's two young children, Melissa and Brian, then together they welcomed Jessica a few years later. A strong commitment was made by all to have a cohesive blended family. As a family of 5, they travelled the world with Candy leading the way.

While working at Braniff, Candy founded a resort clothing store called The Hawaiian Shop that she ran for 15 years. Candy was known as someone who was high-energy and always on the go! She lived a life of service in a myriad of organizations and causes. She loved her time with her Braniff alumni group called the Clipped B's. She was a deeply devoted member of University Park UMC where she served in almost every volunteer position from the Children's Council to Chair of the Administrative Council. She was always one of the first to offer to help.

The happiest times of her life centered around her nine grandchildren. She was their #1 fan and would call or text on a regular basis to send her love, support and a "telephone hug." Wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, co-worker, friend - many roles lived out in service and love. If you knew Gamma, you knew she loved you. She will be greatly missed. Vaya con Dios. Aloha.
