On November 24, 1957, he married Lois Ann Bergstrom, the love of his life and "the best thing that ever happened to him". They celebrated 66 happy and loving years together and had three children, Stephanie, Michele, and Todd. Throughout his career they moved many times and after he retired, they settled in Omaha, Nebraska.
Carl was the proud Grandpa to Aaron Scott Tompkins, Dustin Ryan Tompkins, Ann Michele King, Emily Christine King Bulkley and Makenna Grace Johnson. He was also Great Grandpa to eight beautiful great grandchildren.
He had a long career in retail and worked with Hested's, J.J. Newberry, TG&Y and Wal-Mart Stores. Carl was instrumental in the early years with Wal-Mart as they entered new territories. He enjoyed developing, mentoring, and teaching his associates.
Carl will be remembered as a man of integrity and character, a man of his word. He was a man that loved his family deeply and a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Not a Day Will Go By - by Kelly Roper Not a minute, not an hour, Not a day will go by We won't think of you. You enriched our lives While you were here. Now we must learn to live Without you so near. Time may soften the blow, But your memory won't fade. Not a day will go by We won't wish you could have stayed.
