Carole Joyce
Ancelin
Feb 13, 1939 — Aug 22, 2024
On August 22, 2024, Mrs. Carole Joyce Ancelin left us peacefully at the age of 85.
Carole was born on February 13, 1939, in Dayton, Ohio to Donald and Iona Haines. She had one sister, Donna Haines, preceded in death. She raised four children, Gretchen Almind, Alison Vander Wiel, and Joseph Vander Wiel with her previous husband and Matthew Ancelin with her husband of fifty-five years, Donald R. Ancelin. Carole has eight grandchildren, Aaron, Paige, Ian, Hanna, Nicholas, Patrick, Christian, and Remy.
Carole led an adventurous life, traveling the globe, and working in many professional roles. Before moving to Texas, Carole worked at Dayton Power and Light, where her father also worked. When Don was called to serve three tours in Vietnam, Carole worked for Texas State Congressman Clay Smothers while also raising her children.
After the Vietnam war, Don accepted employment with Bell Helicopter in Tehran, Iran. Carole moved the family to Iran to join her husband. Carole was a key figure in helping other American wives adjust and cope with the culture shock of living in Iran. She volunteered to teach music to American middle school students attending the American School of Isfahan to fill in since there was not one. She also worked in Bell Helicopter's public affairs office.
As a pro-Zionist, she embraced the important Christian connection to Judaism and to Israel. She organized tours of Americans living in Iran to visit the Holy Land. She studied Hebrew, and often celebrated Jewish holidays with her many long time Israeli friends.
After evacuation back to the United States, Carole continued in Public Affairs and Journalism. Texas A&M Memorial Student Center, College Station, Texas; Bexar County Medical Society in San Antonio, Texas; New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association; Department of the Navy Public Affairs Officer at Naval Air Warfare Center Lakehurst, New Jersey. She and Don retired to McKinney, Texas to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Her Catholic faith was a central theme of Carole's life since conversion in 1969. She and Don were very active in their various parishes, including Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus, eucharistic ministry, pro-life, religious education, and vacation bible school.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney at 11am August 30, 2024. A rosary will precede mass, at 10:30 am. Reception to follow mass.
