Hallie Vontell Alexander Carruth was born on January 7, 1925 to Grover Franklin Alexander and Hallie Frank Alexander in Burkburnett, Texas. As a Dust Bowl child, she grew up near Pampa, Texas with her father worked in the petroleum industry. On a blind date to the Pampa Rodeo, she met Canara Grayson Carruth in 1943. They married in April of 1946 after he returned as a decorated Marine from the Pacific arena in World War II. They struggled to establish a family, losing two children early and an additional third child, Jerry Von. Thomas Franklin was born in 1952. In 1965, they adopted a daughter, Misty Dawn. Vontell, known as 'Big Mama' or 'Tell' to many, is survived by her brother, John Crocket Alexander, 96 of Garland, Texas, her husband, Canara, aged 91, of Irving, Texas and two children; Misty Dawn Curtiss and husband, Jay Lain Curtiss of Dallas, Texas plus Thomas Franklin Carruth and spouse Robert Thurman Krueger of Altadena, California. They have 4 grandchildren (Michael Angelo Bo Carruth age 33, Ashley Jennette Robin White age 30, Roy Grayson White age 29 and Stephanie Dawn Curtiss age 15) , 7 great grandchildren, numerous great nephews and nieces plus many 'adopted' children from their church and family. Together, Vontell and Canara established a loving family environment that enveloped many friends, neighbors and church members who crossed their paths. They would have celebrated their 69th Anniversary on April 28th. Our creative, vivacious, feisty and funny Wife, Momma, Mom and Nana will live on with us through memories as she touched so many around her. A celebration of Vontell's life will be held at the Aria Cremation Service & Funeral Home, 1820 N. Beltline Road, Irving, Texas 75061, on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at 7:30 PM.
