Carter
Maxfield
Apr 14, 1978 — Mar 1, 2023
Carter Maxfield passed away in Dallas, Texas on March 1, 2023. Born in the shadow of the Wasatch mountains of Salt Lake City to Patricia (Patti) Lenore Heaps and Kent VerNile Maxfield on April 14, 1978, Carter was the youngest of four siblings, having two brothers and a sister.
While still very young, through separation and marriage, his family would grow to include a second mom, a second dad, three more sisters and four more brothers, every one of whom received and felt his complete and total love and acceptance as his own. Over the course of his life Carter's presence would be an instrument and blessing bringing his expanded family together.
A loving and loyal son, brother and friend, Carter was slow to judge others and quick to love, accept and befriend. His influence in life was not broad, but it was impactful wherever he was, and certainly in ways we will never fully understand and among people we will never know.
Beyond his family and friends, Carter found his greatest joys in music, exploring and adventure. These pursuits led him from a summer of catching frogs on the lake at his grandparents' home in Maine, to summers waterskiing at Lake Powell, to winters snowboarding on Utah's mountain slopes, to countless hours picking on his electric guitar. He pursued his life's adventure with passion, wherever it took him.
Some years ago Carter fell victim to societal plagues that proved to be a source of significant trial in his mortality and ultimately claimed his life. Though these destructive influences shaped much of the course of his later life, they do not define who he was. Carter was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a beloved son, a dear brother, a loyal friend and above all a precious child of our Heavenly Father, whose loving and watchful eye never left him in this life and continues with him in eternity.
Carter is survived by his parents, Patti & Blaine Nelson and Kent & Jennifer Maxfield. He is also survived by his ten siblings, Marcus Maxfield, Curtis Maxfield, Melissa (Maxfield) Dearden, Kristen (Tanner) Barnes, Ryan Tanner, Jonathan Tanner, Kimberly (Maxfield) Hegerhorst, Matthew Nelson, Kimberly (Nelson) Baxter, and Brian Nelson.
The family will soon be celebrating Carter's life at a time to be announced.
