Obituary

Charline Manning Dandurant, affectionately known as "Mamere" passed away peacefully in her home on February 1, 2026, at 101 years of age. Charline was born January 23, 1925, in Gates, Tennessee to Anna and Charlie Manning. She was their first girl after three older brothers but was joined by a younger sister ten years later. Shortly after she was born, Charline and her family moved to Paducah, Kentucky where she lived through her high school graduation. Charline was raised in a strong Christian home and had a strong faith in her Savior Jesus Christ.

In 1943, Charline moved to Bryan, Texas where her brother Bill was stationed at Bryan Army-Air Force base during WWII. There, her brother worked with a young soldier in the base's photographic lab. His name was Dan Dandurant, three years Charline's senior. Bill introduced Charline to Dan and the rest, as they say, is history. They were engaged that same year and married on Charline's nineteenth birthday, January 23, 1944.

Dan and Charline made their home in Bryan, Texas and after the war, started their family with the birth of Victoria Lee "Vicki" on February 10, 1947. Dan had purchased the Bryan Photographic Studio, which he and Charline ran together. After Vicki's birth, they could not have more children until fourteen years later, Charline became pregnant at thirty-six years of age. She thought she had a "floating" tumor, but when she went to the surgeon for an exam to have it removed, she was surprised and dismayed to be told she was four months pregnant. In shock, and certain that her surgeon was wrong, she went hysterically to her general practitioner only to be told that the surgeon was wrong. She was not four months pregnant. She was five months pregnant! Four months later, Marsha Ann was born. Followed two years later by daughter Dana Kay. Now their family was complete with three girls. They raised their girls in Bryan and lived there for forty years.

Charline spent her life helping her husband with his photographic business and raising her girls. Her hobbies included gardening, reading and bridge. She was an accomplished bridge player and played well into her nineties with expert skill. She often played with beginners to help them with their game, and they greatly appreciated her patient and compassionate instruction. Charline also loved the history of England and sports, especially football. She would discuss players, plays and stats with great enthusiasm. She passed her love of football down to her three girls, who love and watch it to this day.

Charline's mother, Anna Manning, lived with her and Dan much of the time her girls were growing up. As she aged, Anna lived exclusively with them, and they cared for her magnificently. Tragically, Dan became ill with cancer and died on June 11, 1983, at age sixty. Charline was a widow at fifty-seven. She never remarried. In 1987, Charline moved to Oklahoma City with her mother to live with her younger sister, Martha. Charline made friends easily in Oklahoma City through church and bridge. She cared for her mother lovingly and diligently until her mother's death on January 20, 1993, at one hundred years of age.

In 1997, Charline moved to Dallas to live with her daughter Marsha and her husband Craig and their three children. Once again, Charline made friends easily through church, bridge, her sorority, and family. In Dallas, she spent time gardening, cooking, running carpool for her grandchildren and their friends and of course, playing a lot of bridge. Her grandchildren's friends called her "Mamere" and even started a Facebook page dedicated to her. She would often make them French toast breakfasts and was loved everywhere she went.

Charline is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna; her siblings, C.L., Bill, Jim Ed and Martha; her husband, Dan; and her grandson Charles Hughes. She is survived by her daughter Vicki Hughes and her husband Art; her daughter Marsha Holmes and her husband Craig; and her daughter Dana Olejniczak and her husband Tom. As well as her grandchildren, Grady Hughes and his wife Cherish and their children Ty and Haley Campos (Sam); Lisa Matejka and her husband John and their children Mariana and Charles; Katherine Jahnke and her husband Clay and their children Jackson, Parker and Maddie; Stephen Holmes; Sarah Bibb and her husband Cooper and their children Beckham and Bobbi; Ashlee Zoch and her husband Jon and their children Calvin, Sam and Nora; Taylor Olejniczak and his wife Kerrie and their son Kai; Anna Reeves and her husband Bryce and their children Sonny and Ronnie; Abby LeBlanc and her husband Sims; and Charles' wife Janice and their children Mikaelie, McKinnley and Tucker Hughes. In all, she is survived by ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, with a great-great grandchild on the way. Quite a legacy!

Charline lived life to the fullest. She was extremely healthy all her life, as evidenced by her age. She was fun, caring and loved a good party. She and Dan had the gift of hospitality, and they shared it with their many friends and family. She hardly ever seemed to have a bad day. She was always smiling and happy. Charline touched many lives with her wonderful personality and contagious smile. Her faith in Jesus was a very important part of her life. She was a regular churchgoer and a faithful student of scripture in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). When she could no longer attend church or BSF, she read her Daily Bread devotional faithfully. Charline was secure in her eternal life with Jesus. Today, she is alive with Him and with all her faithful family and friends who have gone before her.
