Obituary

Virginia Kay (Holtzclaw) Chen was born February 20, 1947 in Port Arthur, Texas and died January 29 in Dallas, Texas. She spent the last 15 months battling pancreatic cancer with her husband Rory as her constant companion and source of strength, assisting with her treatment, ensuring her comfort, and protecting her quality of life. Known as V.K. or Ginger to those who loved her, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur College in Port Arthur, Texas, also American Tour Management Institute New York, New York. Ginger worked at Texaco Inc., AMI, Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research and St. Paul Surety before retirement. Ginger will be remembered for finding joy in everyday experiences such as cooking and collecting various recipes, picking pecans, blueberries, and blackberries. She found delight in collecting and displaying items found in nature throughout her house. She was a kind and gentle spirit who accepted what life had to give with a precious sense of humor. She was generous and soft-spoken and possessed both inner strength and beauty. Nieces will miss her silly side which often came out when they were together. They will cherish memories of cooking together, antique shopping, trips to the beach, and her squeal of delight when she discovered a new treasure. Just like the seashells, stones and plants she collected, Ginger was one of a kind, a unique and beautiful creation. We will always carry Gingers loving memory in our Hearts. She is survived by her husband, Rory Chen, her brothers Arthur Douglas Holtzclaw of Beaumont, Texas, GT Holtzclaw, Jr and his wife Catherine of Crystal Beach, Texas, George Andrew Holtzclaw of Nederland, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, GT and Margie Holtzclaw of Port Arthur, and her sister, Jo Ann Holtzclaw of Dallas. Special Thanks to the nursing staff at 11th North U.T. Southwestern Medical Center for their compassion and care. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
