Chen-Ming Chen, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 18, 2022 due to complications from undiagnosed gastric cancer. He was days shy of celebrating his 85th birthday on May 21st. He was surrounded by family (son Steve, his wife Monica, their children Sarah & Matthew, and daughter Sue) as he passed from life on this earth.

Chen-Ming was born in Luodong Taiwan, the 5th of 7 siblings (a younger brother passed away before his first birthday). Chen-Ming was born during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan so his first languages were Japanese and Taiwanese. Chen-Ming excelled academically and attended the Military Academy to study engineering. He married Su-Hua Lee in February 1964, and their son Steve (Sun-Long) was born in November the same year. They later moved to the capital Taipei and had their second child Sue (Sun-Feng) in 1971. In 1978, Chen-Ming embarked on an adventure of a lifetime with his whole family and immigrated to the United States. Starting a whole new career, Chen-Ming and Su-Hua both worked at the restaurant that Su-Hua's brother Paul Lee started in Cary, North Carolina. In 1981, Chen-Ming moved his family to Houston, Texas to start his own restaurant. Chen-Ming and Su-Hua worked years in the restaurant and catering business. Chen-Ming also worked as a handyman for many years. In the year 2000, Chen-Ming and Su-Hua made one final move to Dallas, Texas to help Steve and his wife Monica take care of their twins (Sarah and Matthew) who were arriving in January of 2001.

Chen-Ming was humorous and a great story-teller. He enjoyed Japanese music, Karaoke and exercising. He was a lifelong learner and was seen on Facebook posts playing self taught guitar and saxophone. He was a devoted grandfather who shuttled the grandkids Sarah and Matthew everywhere, oversaw their Chinese homework and attended nearly every competitive event that they were in. He was a proud grandfather!

Chen-Ming was also a devoted husband who tirelessly took care of his wife who has Alzheimer's. He is survived by his wife Su-Hua, son Steve and his wife Monica, their children Sarah and Mathew, as well as daughter Sue and her husband David, and their children Jonathan, Mark and Sophie. He is also survived by an older and younger brother in Taiwan (and their respective spouses) and numerous nephews and nieces both in Taiwan and in the United States.

Chen-Ming's annual birthday posts in recent years on Facebook were fundraiser posts for the Alzheimer's Association. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate your support for the Alzheimer's Association to honor Chen-Ming. May he forever be in our hearts!
