Obituary

Clyde Hulin Fowler, 92 of Dallas, TX, passed away, February 2, 2024. He was born in Shallowater, Texas on September 21, 1931 to parents David Clyde Fowler and Donnie Faye Brown Fowler. Hulin grew up on a cotton farm and graduated as salutatorian of Shallowater High School in 1949. He entered S.M.U. and received a BA degree in 1953. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and was a pitcher on the S.M.U. baseball team. Most importantly he met his wonderful wife, Ann Woodson. They were blessed with over sixty-nine years together. Following two years of service in the U.S. Navy, he entered Texas Tech University and received a MA degree in 1957. He and Ann toured Europe for six weeks and this experience led to a great interest in the possibility of travel as a business career. He was employed by travel agencies in Amarillo and Fort Worth prior to purchasing an agency in Abilene. This agency was sold in 1968 and the family moved to Dallas where he founded and operated Dollar Rent A Car in Dallas and Houston. Selling this business in 1975, he reentered the travel business, his first love, founding Fowler Tours. Hulin was engaged in the travel business for over sixty years and during this time, he and Ann escorted many groups all over the world. They were Silver Members of Travelers Century Club having visited over one hundred fifty countries. One of his very favorite trips was Antarctica to which he hosted four groups. In addition, he hosted a small group on a cruise through the Northwest Passage from Greenland to Nome, Alaska. Through the years, he specialized in organizing groups to the Holy Land. He felt that it was very important for Christians to have the opportunity to visit the land of our Lords birth and ministry. Five of these trips were Holy Land cruises by chartered ship out of Athens with approximately three hundred passengers on each. Lectures by Bible scholars aboard ship and on site made these trips very special and popular. However, due to the uncertain political climate and financial risk, it was necessary to discontinue the ship charters. Since that time, he continued to organize smaller groups with ministers and teachers serving as tour hosts. Hulin said that he never wanted to retire and so he didnt. He was still involved in Fowler Tours until the very last few days of his life. After so many years of planning for others to fulfill their travel dreams, he is on the most wonderful journey of all. God speed, Hulin. Hulin was a charter member of Prestoncrest Church of Christ and served faithfully for over fifty years. He served as a deacon for a number of years and earlier as a deacon at the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene. He was an active participant in the Friendspeak Program, teaching foreign students English using the Bible as a text. He was a member of the National Society of the Sons and Daughter of the Pilgrims. In addition to his wonderful wife, Ann, he is survived by daughter, Lynn Gideon of Dallas, son, Richard Fowler and his wife Karen of The Woodlands, TX, grandson, Grant Fowler and Granddaughter, Ivy Fowler and brother in law Richard Woodson of Yountville, CA. A memorial service will be conducted on February 16 at 2:00 PM at Prestoncrest Church of Christ, 6022 Preston Crest Ln. Dallas, TX 75230. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PartnersinProgress.org; the Childrens Home of Lubbock, TX; or the Prestoncrest Church of Christ mission program.
