Obituary

Alan R. Cook, 69, of Dallas died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Dallas TX Veterans Medical Center. Alan was born June 13, 1948 in Wayne, NE to Arthur and Edith (Sahs) Cook. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Carroll, NE. He was a faithful member and choir participant of St. Johns Episcopal Church. Alan attended grade school in Carroll and graduated from Wayne High School (NE) in 1966. He served in the United States Army from June 1967 to January 1970, including service in Vietnam from December 1967 until his release from active duty, where he was an aircraft technician. He then took employment at Goodyear Tire in Lincoln NE. Alan returned to Vietnam in 1973 for 19 months as a civilian contractor of Lear Siegler. In 1974, he located to Dallas TX where he spent the remainder of his life. While working full time, he attended North Texas State University and in 1982 received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Cum Laude. Alan's post military working career was concentrated in various aspects of industrial equipment, including Halliburton, Otis Engineering, Kyocera and Mitsubishi, and eventually as an independent cutting tool salesman to specialty manufacturers, where he found his true calling. Alan is survived by Vietnam veteran brother Craig Cook and wife Lori of Gretna, NE, brothers Rodney Cook of Plainview, NE and Gordon Cook and wife Alicia of Parkville, MO; sisters Barbara and husband Kent Sprague of Lincoln, NE, Virginia Cook and Ernie Galindo of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Jo and husband Gordon Jorgensen of Milford, IA and Catherine Cook of Omaha, NE; four nieces, five nephews, special friend Sylvia Moore of Dallas, and many other lifelong friends. Alan was preceded in death by his WWII veteran father in 1992, mother in 2015, and Vietnam veteran brother Warren in 2012.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27 at St. Johns Episcopal Church at 848 Harter Road in Dallas.

Visitation: 6‐8 p.m. on Friday, January 26 at Aria Funeral Home

Final services including burial will be in Carroll, NE at a later date. Memorials can be directed to the Baylor Healthcare System Foundation, Virginia R. Cvetko Patient Education Center in Dallas.
