Obituary

Cynthia Marie Hereau Ewing

Cindy Ewing passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Dallas, TX on August 28, 2024. Cindy was born in Chicago, IL on June 5, 1954 to Tom and Mary Hereau. Cindy was born early, proving she was a fighter, even as a baby. On her birthday each year, Cindy donated blood in honor of her early days in the hospital.

She was the only daughter with four brothers: Bill, Joe, Bob, and Fred. As a child, Cindy's favorite times were spent on her parents houseboat on the Mississippi River in the summer. Growing up, Cindy was very active in sports. As a teen she worked for the Parks Department in Forest Park, IL. teaching softball, archery, and karate, much to the surprise of her grown children. She called her time there her favorite job besides being a mom.

Cindy graduated from Proviso East High School in 1972. She worked in a variety of jobs, even taking a wrong turn on her way to a job interview at O'Hare airport and accidentally driving onto the runway. Cindy married David Ewing on April 7, 1979. They built their first home in Kansas with Cindy picking out all the features only to move to California before ever moving in.

Cindy and Dave eventually moved to Dallas in January of 1987, settling just one street over from her future lifelong friends. After Dave's passing in 1990, her children grew up, and friends blended into family. Happy years were spent with trips to Lake Bonham, bowling leagues, golfing, PTA, Bunko, and glasses of Chardonnay with her honorary sisters, Connie Stone and Chrissie Piekenbrock. Always thoughtful, Cindy worked for the American Cancer Society driving people without families to their chemotherapy visits. She was a die-hard sports fan, loving the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavs, and Stars. She had jerseys and players she rooted for and bonded with people over her favorite teams, texting friends and family through the games.

Cindy is survived by her children, Sarah and Matt. Cindy expanded her family with their spouses and "other kids" Jason Cody and Rachel Ewing. Described as the "best, most supportive mother-in-law that you could ask for," Cindy welcomed everyone into her life, expanding her family even more.

Cindy was comforted by friends in her final days, and her legacy was teaching her children how to be a great friends to others. She remembered all the quirky interests you may have mentioned, so she could find a thoughtful gift later based on something you may have said. She will also be missed by her beloved rescue dog, Buddy.

Services will be held Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 at the Aria Funeral Home located at 19310 Preston Road in Dallas. Reception to follow at the home of Matt and Rachel Ewing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Happy Pet Project, supporting rescue dogs to find their next home, or the charity of your choice.
