Darwin "Wayne" Smith, 73, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on January 15, 2018.
The visitation and funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Gateway Funerals and Cremation. Burial will follow the funeral at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gateway Funerals and Cremation.
Wayne was born in Washington, North Carolina on November 6, 1944. He graduated from Princess Anne High School and continued on to receive a bachelor's degree from Old Dominon University.
Wayne was married to Claudia Gallemore on September 25, 1976; they were married for 41 years.
Wayne worked as a self employed contractor for the majority of his life. He enjoyed working with his hands and creating something new. After college, he joined the military and and served as a captain in the United States Army. Some of his most esteemed accomplishments included being an Army Ranger, serving as the commander to the Nike Hercules Missile Command, and serving in the United States Military Assistance Command Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, marksmanship, and playing chess. Wayne's greatest love was his family and he played an active role in their lives.
Wayne is survived by Claudia Smith, his children: David Smith, Steven Smith, Tricia Becht, Christine Smith, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his brother Glenn.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Darwin and Hazel Smith and his brother Norman.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be submitted to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
