DAVID MICHAEL BOOKOUT, M.D.

David Bookout was born in Dallas, Texas, on November 15, 1937. He went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2025. He attended various Texas schools in his early years. He then returned to Dallas and graduated from Adamsson High School. He attended Southern Methodist University, where he met his future wife Betty Irion. He graduated from SMU in 1960 and University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1964. He completed his internship at Veterans Administration Hospital, and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Parkland Hospital, Dallas.

He served two years in the US Air Force and then returned to Dallas. He and the late Henry Estess, M.D., established Walnut Hill Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1970. In the mid 1980's he and James Madden, M.D., were instrumental in establishing the Assisted Reproductive Technology (in-vitro fertilization) program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He practiced medicine for over 40 years.

He served as president of numerous organizations, including Dallas County Medical Society, Dallas Ft. Worth Ob-Gyn Society, Southwest Gynecologic Assembly, and the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas Medical Staff. He was Chairman of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department at Presbyterian Dallas for 14 years. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church Richardson for more than 60 years.

David and Betty enjoyed many years of travel and sporting events, including SMU football and basketball. He was an avid golfer, sailor, and scuba diver.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, one son, Randal Bookout, daughter-in-law Michelle Bookout, grandchildren Astin Bookout, Piper Bookout Mayes, and Halle Bookout, and great granddaughter Lakelynn Mayes. He was loved by all and will be in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be help on Thursday, June 12, at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church Richardson.
